Emerald Isle Hedgehogs

*** Emerald Isle Hedgehogs does not promote the use of Cedar Shavings for bedding as it has been known to cause respiratory problems as hedgehogs have very sensitive respiratory systems. There are also chemicals in Cedar Shavings that can damage their lungs irreparably. We use fleece in part of the cage and then Cell-Sorb Plus in their litter boxes where the wheels go. We feel Cell-Sorb Plus absorbs the odors the best out of everything we have tried but pine shavings work very well too.  If you are to use recycled newspaper products just be sure your Hedgehogs does not decide he/she likes the taste and starts to eat it.  Hedgehogs love to burrow and we feel this natural instinct should be met.

At this time we do not include a "house" in our kits as we have found many different owners like different housing from XXL Sterilites to XXL My First Homes.  Please check our Housing page found in Care and Diet to see examples of different types of housing. We recommend that any housing you chose be large enough for a place to sleep, a place to keep food and water clean and a wheel.  A wheel is a must!  Hedgehogs need exercise!
